What Happens When Staff Fails to Provide Care?

Many families trust doctors, nurses and nursing home staff to provide competent care for their elderly members. When a facility or individual staff member fails to provide the accepted standard of care, however, nursing home residents are at risk for serious injury and wrongful death.

At Kanoski & Associates, we hold negligent nursing homes accountable for their actions. Our attorneys represent nursing home negligence victims and their families in personal injury and wrongful death suits. While no one can undo the damage that has been done, we can seek justice for your loved one. Injuries and Illnesses Suffered by Nursing Home Residents

Inadequate training, understaffing and lack of staff supervision are common problems in many nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Because nursing home staff turnover is high, many staff members are also inexperienced. When an overworked, inexperienced staff is responsible for ill and vulnerable patients, the risk for error is great.

In most cases, negligence by the facility or staff is responsible for injuries suffered by residents. Some of the most frequent injuries and illnesses that occur in nursing homes include:

  • Bedsores (decubitus ulcers, lesions and pressure point sores)
  • Dehydration and malnutrition
  • Falls and broken hips
  • Complications from medication errors
  • Injuries suffered when residents wander off

Doctors, nurses and nurses' aides who do not provide adequate care may commit acts of negligence such as failure to monitor patients, failure to follow a physician's orders, failure to report to a physician, medication errors, failure to recognize symptoms or failure to diagnose.

We will investigate the conditions that resulted in your loved one's injury or death. If the nursing home and/or staff were negligent, we may seek compensation to cover medical costs, pain and suffering, and emotional distress.
